Select Board · Meeting of March 2, 2026
Barre Select Board heard that over $400,000 sits unreconciled in town accounts, delaying the fiscal 2025 audit. Town Administrator Melanie Jackson said the fiscal 2024 audit by CBiz remains open because transfers and deposits were never matched between the treasurer-collector's cash book and the bank, calling it "really concerning to not have a reconciliation process in place every single month." She said a motor vehicle excise commitment of roughly $38,000 to $40,000 was misapplied to the wrong fiscal year and that the town's debt was recorded incorrectly, requiring help from the state Department of Revenue. Jackson said the town does not know its "actual cash" as it begins the fiscal 2027 budget.
The board also approved a common victualler's license for Barre House of Pizza and a Town Common use request from Q Drug Purple Prevention for March 16 to 20, and tabled a Senior Center room rental proposal after no one from the Senior Center attended to explain it.
