Barre Select Board honors first responders, then adopts a townwide financial policy. Police Chief Siboran presented lifesaving medals to five officers and firefighters for a fatal December 26 crash on Hubberston Road, plus a commendation for resident Justin Wilcox. Town Administrator Melanie Jackson said the town's new financial policy and transfer-request form will end years of departments being allowed to "deficit spend" within their budgets.
Jackson reported Barre's fiscal 2027 Chapter 90 road funding totals $748,984.01, and that a new well is planned after a summer water emergency required trucking in water from Templeton. The board renewed three-year contracts for Fire Chief James DeVergilio and DPW Superintendent Tim Bachelor, and declined a resident's request to expand a native-plant garden on the common, citing winter snow and salt storage there: "It's just going to kill that garden," Chair Dr. Maureen Marshall said.
