Barre Select Board Sends Hardwick Ambulance Deal to Town Counsel Before Vote

BARRE — June 7, 2021 — Barre Select Board delays vote on $25,000 Hardwick ambulance agreement, orders legal review. The board voted unanimously at its June 7 meeting to send a draft memorandum of agreement — under which Hardwick would pay Barre a flat $25,000 annually for ambulance coverage — to town counsel and Chief Rogowski for review before any final action is taken. Chair Dr. Maureen Marshall and fellow members flagged contract language carried over from an older New Braintree agreement, questioned whether a reimbursement clause should be struck, and warned that the $25,000 figure is an estimate that may prove too low once a full year of service is logged. The board targeted a July 1 start date and expected to vote on the finalized agreement at its next weekly meeting, pending clean contract language from both communities' attorneys.
