Barre Select Board sets a July 28 special election on a DPW dump-truck debt exclusion. The board, chaired by Dr. Maureen Marshall, also signed a settlement with former employee Jason Cole and voted to let the Barre Historical and Cemetery Commissions open talks with the state over transferring the historic Prince Walker burial ground, calling it "one of the only burial grounds in Massachusetts that was created by an African American for African Americans." Members approved a 2.5 percent cost-of-living raise effective July 1 and a $23,575 shared-services deal with Hardwick's senior center.
Circle of Song president Julie pressed the board on new insurance requirements for groups using town hall, asking "what has caused the situation" after decades of informal use; the board tabled the group's requested dates pending cost estimates. Town Clerk Ellen will run the July 28 vote from noon to 6 p.m.
