Barre Select Board Deems Second Dog Dangerous, Orders Stetson School Fencing
BARRE — June 18, 2018 — Barre Select Board declares a second household dog dangerous and escalates pressure on Stetson School over repeated juvenile escapes. The board voted unanimously Monday to deem a dog named Bryn dangerous under MGL chapter 140 and impose the same restrictions already applied to a dog named Niko at 612 Wheeler Road, including liability insurance within 30 days and a kennel license application within two weeks; owners were advised of their 10-day right to appeal to district court. A law enforcement officer told the board that three juveniles who escaped the Seven Hills Foundation-operated Stetson School on June 6-7 carried a written manifesto detailing plans for armed carjacking and robbery, broke into at least three vehicles, and were at large for roughly 11 hours before the final two were apprehended. A Barre resident who lives near the campus described years of encounters, including a 2017 incident in which a runaway student entered her property and a staff member allegedly removed her trail camera. The board voted unanimously to authorize Town Administrator Andrew to draft a formal demand letter requiring a perimeter fence and a police notification protocol, and to consult town counsel on potential legal action if Stetson does not comply.
