Barre Special Town Meeting Approves $83,200 Stabilization Fund Transfer, Land Acquisition

BARRE — November 14, 2017 — Barre Special Town Meeting approves $83,200 Stabilization Fund transfer and a series of capital expenditures. Voters at the November 14 meeting passed the transfer by the two-thirds supermajority required under state law, directing the funds toward debt service costs tied to a consolidation of six town accounts. Additional appropriations included $10,000 for cardiac monitors, $5,500 for repairs and replacement of urns at Riverside Cemetery, $5,000 for IMC software, and a $15,000 transfer from available funds for town operations. A proposed bylaw amendment that would have eliminated references to "South Barre" and "Barre Village" was withdrawn after a resident argued the town should address its outdated code comprehensively rather than selectively. Voters also accepted a roughly 2-acre landlocked parcel near Jules Road, a move officials framed as preserving leverage in a longstanding road discontinuance dispute.
