Barre Select Board Approves All 14 Articles for December Special Town Meeting
BARRE — November 13, 2018 — Barre Select Board unanimously approves all 14 articles for a December 11 special Town Meeting. The board moved through the full warrant at its November 13 meeting, accepting articles that include a $500,000 authorization to borrow for a new fire engine to replace Engine No. 4, a 3 percent local sales tax on marijuana products, a marijuana establishment licensing bylaw, a solar zoning amendment, and a citizens petition to install a permanent basketball hoop at Norna Park in South Barre. A $530 overdue invoice to Renaissance Alliance Insurance Services and an unpaid fiscal year 2018 regional animal control assessment also appear on the warrant. One board member cautioned against the marijuana moratorium extension, saying, "I would not support another moratorium after this," given that Town Meeting had already voted against a de facto prohibition. The board closed by voting on roll call to enter executive session to discuss non-union contract negotiations with the police chief.
