Barre Finance Committee Leaves Key FY18 Budget Numbers Unresolved Before Hearing
BARRE — June 7, 2017 — Barre Finance Committee leaves FY18 budget unresolved ahead of June 14 public hearing. Chair Zachary Macutkiewicz led a working session June 7 in which the committee revised its local receipts line to $126,097.50 to account for regional building inspector revenue and information technology cost-sharing, while plugging the school assessment in at the four percent figure of $5,331,513 pending potential level-funding by the district. A disputed $14,000 police salary addition — which would bring one sergeant's raise to 30 percent upon promotion to assistant chief — remained unresolved, as did whether to raise the ambulance receipt projection from $360,000 to $435,000 based on the fire chief's estimate that a new half-time position would generate $75,000 in additional annual revenue. The committee will reconvene at 6 p.m. on June 14 at the Senior Center before a 7 p.m. public hearing on the full budget warrant.
